The Kingdom of Sweden is located in Northern Europe, and is bordered by Norway (in the west), Finland (in the east), and the Baltic Sea in the southwest. Sweden is connected to Denmark in the South by the Oresund Bridge. Sweden has a generally temperate climate due to offshore Gulf Stream waters, though there can be large variations in temperature between summer and winter. Winters are very cold, and most of the Norrland experiences cold temperatures for about seven months, with a summer of under three months, while the southern region of Skane has a short, cold winter of only two months with a four month long summer.

Sweden is a consititutional democracy, and a member of the European Union. The population of Swden is 9.1 million. The capital city is Stockholm, and major cities include Goteborg and Malmo. The national languages are Swedish, Finnish and Sami. Sweden has the 28th highest GDP at $29,898, and has the 5th highest HDI in the world. The national currency is the Krona. The Church of Sweden (Lutheran) is the predominant religion - 78%. Freedom of religion is guaranteed in law.
