Portugal
Portugal is located in southwestern Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. Portugal is the westernmost country of mainland Europe, bordered by Spain to the north and east. The Azores and Madeira in he Atlantic also belong to Portugal. Southern Portugal, including the Algarve,has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures are high, but moderated by sea breezes. In the north the weather is wetter, particularly in winter, and cooler, temperatures influenced by Atlantic currents and the Spanish Meseta. Portugal is a demo and ocratic republic and member of the European Union. The capital city is lisbon, and mjor cities include Porto, Sebutal and Faro.
Portugal's population is 106 million. Portugal ranks 38th in terms of GDP, and has the 28th HDI in the world. The national currency is the Euro. Religions include Roman Catholic 75% and protestant or other 25%.
