The People's Republic of China is located on the west of East China Sea, has a coastline of 14,500 kilometres (9,010 mi), and borders Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan,Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia, Mongolia, and North Korea. China is the most populous country on earth, with a population of approximately 1.3 billion. China has a range of climates varying from tropical to cold temperate, and from high mountain to desert. South and central China have a tropical or subtropical climate with no real winter cold, while north China, Manchuria, and the western provinces have a severe winter. Eastern China has abundant summer rain while the northern and western regions contain much desert and semi-desert.
The national languages are Mandarin, Cantonese, and other Chinese dialects, although many other languages are spoken given the multi-national nature of the population. The currency is the Malaysian Ringgit. The national economy is growing very rapidly, ranking 84th in GDP - $7,200 ppp), and having the 81st highest HDI Index in the world. China is officially aetheist. However, Daoism (Taoism), Buddhism, Christianity and islam are practised.
